KCRG Mugshots 2014
For those of you who don't know, KCRG is a local television news station out of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and every day they show a 30-60 second "mugshot" which features a business or event's "mug." It's a creative way to showcase the community and fun events by using a play on words and a real, ceramic or plastic, mug! This year, our Marketing Manager reached out to Mary Swanson, an art teacher at Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids and asked if her students would be interested in creating mugs for the Old Creamery to be showcased on KCRG Mugshots. Mary Swanson responded with fantastic enthusiasm, as did her students! 10 students participated along with Mary Swanson herself and created gorgeous mugs!

Take a look at the list below and at the slideshow of the student's mugs! They did such a phenomenal job!
Name: Dominick Tamayo-Meyers – Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash
Grade: 12
Idea behind the mug: I wanted the flames to represent how hot the mug was by surrounding the “ring” painted on the very top.
Name: Emily Jonas – How I Became a Pirate
Grade: 12
Idea behind the mug: The play was based on a children’s book so I wanted to recreate a page that was made for the book.
Name: Allayna Smith - Snoopy!!! The Musical
Grade: 9
Idea behind the mug: Inspired by images found of the musical. Images were drawn by myself and then adhered on to the mug.
Name: Brenden Ziegenhorn – Cash on Delivery
Grade: 11
Idea behind the mug: Money, Money, Money!
Name: Maddy Witting - A Tribute to Barbra
Grade: 11
Idea behind the mug: I channeled my inner Barbra for this project. I was inspired by one of her album covers and her signature “big” nose.
Name: Gina Buelow – Stuart Little
Grade: 11
Idea behind the mug: I used ideas and style from the movie and the color scheme using bright color and brush strokes to add texture.
Name: Alexis Miller – Frankly Scarlett, You’re Dead
Grade: 11
Idea behind the mug: Based off of the poster. I also used glitter because glitter makes everything betterJ
Name: Jordan Renfro – Tuna Does Vegas
Grade: 12
Idea behind the mug: Tacky and over the top. I thought about the dad at the beginning of “Despicable Me” for the design of the guy on the mug.
Name: Mandy Duffey – Branson on the Road
Grade: Science Teacher – Jefferson High School
Idea behind the mug: Celebration of their anniversary
Name: Mary Swanson – Cinderella
Grade: Art Teacher – Jefferson High School
Idea behind the mug: The shape of the mug reminded me of the carriage so I ran with that idea by incorporating only the shoe to symbolize Cinderella herself.
